Cable trays are components of support systems for power and communications cables and wires. A cable tray system supports and protects both power and signal cables, and makes it easy to upgrade, expand, reconfigure, or relocate networks.
Most cable tray systems are open, allowing efficient heat dissipation and easy access for replacement and repairs. Although typically suspended from ceilings or affixed to walls, some systems are suitable for under-floor use.
In the electrical wiring of buildings, cable trays support insulated cables used for power distribution, control, and communication. They are an alternative to open wiring or electrical conduit, and are commonly used for cable management in commercial and industrial construction. They are especially useful where changes to a wiring system are anticipated, since new cables can be laid in the tray instead of being pulled through a pipe.
Types of Cable Trays
Different tray designs for different levels of protection, ventilation, and access.
Ladder Type
Cables are supported by transverse bars — like the rungs of a ladder — at regular intervals of roughly 100 to 300 mm.
Perforated Type
Slots and holes punched in the tray bottom. Carries weight loads, keeps cable laying orderly, allows air circulation, and gives easy entry and exit for single or multiple cables.
Ventilated
Openings in the tray bottom allow air circulation around cables, water drainage, and let dust fall through. Small cables can exit through the slots or holes.
Solid-Bottom
Provides maximum protection to cables, but requires cutting the tray or using fittings for cables to enter or exit.
Raceway / Trunking / Ducts
A deep, solid enclosure for cables — fully protected, clean routing for wiring.
Complete the System
